A privately owned village, in the ownership of one family, reputedly the most beautiful village in the UK. You cannot purchase property here, only rent, but generations of families never leave, and rarely come up for rental.

The streets are far too steep for motor vehicles, which to this day is still vehicle free. (Parking for visitors is just outside of the Visitors Centre). There is a charge for entry to the village, which helps with the maintenance of this special village. Your entry fee covers parking, and other facilities provided by the Clovelly Estate, as well as admission to the 20 min. film show which tells of the fascinating history of Clovelly. Also, admission to the Fisherman's Cottage, Kingsley Museum and Clovelly Court.

For centuries the main form of transport were donkeys. Clovelly still has its resident donkeys and children can enjoy rides in the summer season. All goods in the village are now transported by sledge, from groceries to furniture, especially during the winter.

VISIT THE VISITORS CENTRE - To learn more of Clovelly's famous smuggling, wrecking and piracy history.

STABLE YARD - Watch skilled crafts people at work creating beautiful items of printed silks and pottery.

FISHING is still a part of village life - Take a fishing trip, cruise the coastline, or join an excursion to Lundy Island.

COASTAL WALKS - one of the best ways to appreciate the stunning setting of Clovelly is to walk along 'Hobby Drive'.
Walking through the woods gives magnificent glimpses of the harbour. Ask at the Visitor Centre for a leaflet on Coastal Walks.

CLOVELLY COURT GARDENS AND CHURCH - Ask for directions at the Visitors Centre. The walled kitchen gardens are open to the public. The Parish Church of All Saints dates from the 13th century.

Walk down through this beautiful valley to discover this wild and rugged coastline of North Devon, offering stunning coastal footpath, sand and sea bathing, waterfall, popular with surfers.

Visit the nearby MARSLAND VALLEY, popular with walkers, beach area, watch for the tide coming in.

Visit this stunning location - The Hartland Peninsula with its huge cliffs, sand and rocky beach on the South West Coastal Path. On a clear day you can see Lundy Island and in good weather, dolphins and seals can be seen in the bay.
Perched on the side of the cliff, visit the Hartland Quay Hotel for a meal. Dogs on leads are welcome but not on the actual beach. Many films and TV shows have been filmed here. Visit the Shipwreck Museum and gift shop. In the summer, schools from London and the cities visit to practice their rock climbing skills on the steep cliff face. ** Take care when approaching the 'winding' cliff road and then further down to the Quay, slow driving essential.

Built in the 13th century with slate floors, open fires, original oak beams, salvaged from local shipwrecks and antique furnishings. I have always loved it here and families drive for miles to visit this very special place - daily freshly baked scones, home made jams and clotted cream straight from the farm to your table.

This award winning tea room had been in the same family since the 1950's - In a truly beautiful setting within a short walk of the stunning coastal footpath and adjacent to the historic Parson Hawker's, St. John The Baptist Church.

Parson Hawker's - St. John the Baptist Church

Visit the historic St. John the Baptist Church, adjacent to the tea rooms.

The church was made famous by the eccentric Parson Hawker, visit his legendary hut built in the side of the cliff face, where he wrote many of his poems. This Parish was a smugglers haunt and ship wrecking history which is evident in the church yard of many sailors who drowned at sea, and don't forget to walk the level 10 min. walk to the cliff tops and take in the views.

MARSLAND MOUTH BEACH

Marsland Mouth is a remote pebble beach on the border between Devon and Cornwall. Marsland Water a small stream flows across the beach - the stream marks the border between the two counties. The beach is part of the "Steeple Point To Marsland Mouth" SSSI and is close to the Marsland Valley Reserve, managed by the Devon Wildlife Trust known for the rare Pearl-bordered Fritillary butterfly.

Access to Marsland Mouth Beach is only available by foot or boat via a steep walk from the Coastal path that runs from Duckpool Beach to Welcombe Beach. Please watch for the tide coming in.
